A cross-party, cross-industry UK Trade and business Commission have produced a report that delivers 17 recommendations for the UK Government on how we can introduce a youth experience scheme.
The Scheme aims to reconnect our young people with the young people of Europe to create partnerships that benefit us all.
The Scheme will provide opportunities for young people to live, work and study in Europe or the UK for a set period of time.
The success of the scheme will depend on the finer details in whether the scheme attracts and incentivizes young people to make that move.
The duration of the stay must be fair and balanced for all countries for both UK students/workers and European works coming to the UK.
Support for the Scheme was good but dropped considerably if the Scheme were to last more than 2 years.
Discussions in Parliament
The Centre for European Reform has estimated that such an agreement would add nearly 0.5% to UK DGP over 10 years.
The debate Parliament wanted reassurance will maximise all the opportunities on offer for young people from all backgrounds to work, study, do apprenticeships and volunteer in European Union Countries in order to boost our economy and rebuild cultural links.
The Government recognize the economic benefits of young people having these opportunities to work and study in Europe and bring back the knowledge and skills to the UK.
This is why the Government are working on an associate relationship with the Erasmus + scheme.
Creative Europe
In October more than 200 UK and EU cultural and creative organisations issued a joint statement called for the UK to rejoin Creative Europe, and the new AgoraEU. This would give young people access to grants and cultural exchanges. This is something the Government are looking into.
